New Year...

The Romans named the first month of the year after Janus, the god of gateways and beginnings and the guardian of doorways and transitions. He was often depicted with 2 heads that face opposite directions. At midnight on December 31st, the Romans imagined Janus looking back to the year departed whilst also looking forward to the new and uncertain year ahead.

The Romans gave gifts on New Year's Eve of branches from sacred trees to wish recipients an auspicious New Year. Later, gilded nuts or coins imprinted with the god Janus became more common New Year's gifts.

New Resolve...

One study found that persistence is the key to keeping a resolution. While only 40% kept their number one resolution on the first try, the rest had to keep at it and 17% finally kept their goal after six attempts. So, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again1

What is your New Year's resolution this year? And how do you plan on sticking to it?

Some studies suggest that women are more successful when they tell their friends about their resolutions. Men are more successful when they set S.M.A.R.T goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time based). Whichever way works for you, let's make sure we stick to our resolutions!
