Black History Month 2016

Black History Month 2016

Black History Month is an annual celebration in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada for remembrance of important people, and events throughout the history of the African Diaspora.

Black History Month has been celebrated every October in the UK for over 35 years. It was celebrated first in London, but now it’s a nationwide celebration of Black History, Art and Culture.

There are a number of events taking place in London to celebrate. The Royal Court Theatre on Sloane Square, has a performance ‘Father comes home from the wars.’ The play delves into slavery, the concept of freedom and the impact this had upon families. The play runs until the 22nd October.

Another great event, which is organised by the Mayor of London - ‘Africa on the Square’ which takes place on Saturday 15th October in Trafalgar Square. Save the date!

You can expect to see live music, dancing and traditional African markets, with food and fashion shows. This event is completely free, so join the crowds to show your support!
