To Ugli...With Love

To Ugli...With Love

After such a spellbinding experience at Ugli, I thought it only right to write one final post to hopefully get some closure over what was an amazing experience for me, and one that I'm confident will help me in the next step of my career. Okay, maybe I'm over-reacting, I'm over it, seriously...but before I go, here's a few things that stood out for me during my time at Ugli.

First and foremost, a big shout out to the Ugli members. It was fascinating to meet such a rich variety of individuals from all walks ...

Ugli's New Year's Revolution

Here at Ugli HQ we think it's time to do away with New Year's Resolutions. Does anyone still do them? And if so, how long do they last for? Not very long we imagine.

We want to start promoting more worthwhile actions that will have a real impact on our surrounding environment, as well as our own lives. So instead of joining the gym or eating less chocolate, why don't you join the Ugli New Year's Revolution and start making a genuine difference!

Ugli and The DoNation have joined forces to offer our members and the ...

Saving The Children at Ugli

Saving The Children at Ugli

Christmas jumpers have been knocking around since the early 80s, when uncle 'WhatsHisFace' would turn up every Christmas wearing some abomination of a sweater in the vein hope of getting a few laughs. Said sweater would then get stuffed into the back of the wardrobe until the same day of the following year, never daring to make an appearance beforehand. Oh how things have changed! Dare we say it, but Christmas jumpers have quite possibly become fashionable. The uglier they are the better the reception they get. What sort of world are we living in? How did this happen? Who ...

A Sustainable Alternative to Fundraising...

A Sustainable Alternative to Fundraising...

In this day and age do we really need all the stuff that we get given for Christmas? Is it time to start thinking about more worthwhile actions instead?

The recent economic downturn has seen a significant proportion of society take a differing view towards what it means to spend money. The days of mass consumerism feel like they were left behind in the last decade. We're now looking towards a future, where sustainability is a priority, recycling is commonplace and up-cycling has become a new trend that's hopefully here to stay. Buying brand new products is no ...

The Ugli Collaborators 2013

The Ugli Collaborators 2013

If you're lucky enough to work in the Ugli building, you'll be well aware of the benefits on offer from working in such a community driven environment. Perhaps the most beneficial, however, is the fact that you're working alongside neighbours and fellow members, who are likely to work in a similar industry or one that could benefit from your expertise. How do you know who these people are though?

Here at Ugli, we're constantly conjuring up ways to help you to get to know your fellow Uglies, with the hope of forging successful business opportunities as ...

The Ugli Xmas Schmoozemas - The Aftermath

The Ugli Xmas Schmoozemas - The Aftermath

Christmas has officially arrived at Ugli and what better way to kick off the festive season than with a good ol' fashioned Christmas Party.

All the usual Christmas cliches were present: cheesy music, silly hats, drinking games and plenty of festive cheer. Spirits were high as guests filtered into The Big Room, which had been transformed into an enchanted forest, something akin to a Tim Burton movie. That is, however, where the gothic chic ended, as Uglies turned up wearing all manner of silly headgear and Christmas jumpers.

The obligatory cheesy Christmas music was the soundtrack to the evening, everything ...

Cut Down On Paper, Not Trees!

Cut Down On Paper, Not Trees!

So as you may be aware, the meeting room is going to be booked online as opposed to the old school paper format on the front of the door.

This will be make your lives much easier and ensures that we're catching up with the 21st century. Apparently the Internet is all the rage these days. It also means that we're cutting down on paper usage and hopefully saving a few trees in the process, considering it's National Tree Week we thought this tied in quite nicely.

Although switching to an entirely paperless office might be a ...

Ugli Presents...A Short Film Showcase

Ugli Presents...A Short Film Showcase

The scene was set - the lights were dimmed, the audience were seated and the technical difficulties were eventually overcome (thanks to  Dave from N3RD for your technical expertise aka hitting a button). The second Ugli Presents... was officially ready to roll.

We always expected the quality of shorts to be high but nothing prepared us for the sheer excellence that was presented by five very talented filmmakers. The future of British filmmaking is in safe hands if these guys and girls continue to make such stunning films.

First up was Sophie Venner with 'Room 8'. This film was part of ...
